As far back as I can remember I have loved art - and making beautiful things. Whether with paint and brush, pencil and pen, needle and thread, or even in the kitchen, the process and the finished work of art have always fascinated me. Coming from a family of artists as well as marrying into one, and now having grown children who have pursued their creative skills, I am surrounded with appreciation for visual creativity. A native Ohioan transplanted to Virginia, I studied art at James Madison University and Virginia Tech, and have attended numerous workshops.
Also in love with the written word, I developed an interest in letter forms and traditional calligraphy. Classes with some of the current masters such as Micheal Sull, Harvest Crittenden, and Gaynor Goffe have given me a richer understanding of the art and techniques of hand lettering and increase my enjoyment of creating beautiful words.
My other love is painting the human likeness. It gives me great satisfaction as a portrait artist to capture the expressions and activities of loved ones, and create art for future generations to display and enjoy. Capturing a baby's smile and glistening eye, the light and shadow on a loved one's face, special times when friends were near, and cherished life events - provides meaning, value, and enjoyment for my clients and for me as an artist.
